Flitch Way Marathon – 31st December
 
Nine runners entered the Flitch Way Marathon, run mostly along the disused railway track, starting at Great Notley near Braintree and turning around at Takeley and retracing their route back to the start. Jared Bethell was the first Harlow runner back in 5th place with a time of 3.15.10 and the first Harlow lady was Debbie Smith in 98th place in 4.24.17. Pasquale Pellecchia, running his first marathon in 14 years ran an excellent time of 4.05.15 to finish 63rd. Other times were Gary Godfrey (43rd) 3.50.40, Janice Page (101st) 4.24.27, Sean Flynn (137th) 4.38.12, Andy Kinney (216th) 6.01.20, Vicky Calver (222nd) 7.00.00 and Claire Stevens (224th) 7.00.00.

In snowy Berlin, in the New Year’s Eve Pancake Run over 9.9k, Paul Schroder skated in with a time of 1.05.34 in 587th place, quickly followed by Wendy Spring in 1.06.24 in 606th place out of 921 finishers. Then on New Year’s Day they took part in the untimed 4k run.

Harlow Cross Country - 14th December
 
Harlow Running Club hosted the second round of the East Herts and West Essex Cross Country League on a cold Sunday morning over a five mile course on the fields and woods between Newhall and Church Langley, which were very muddy in places. The Ladies team race was won by Ware Joggers with HRC in 4th place, the men's team race was also won by Ware with HRC 5th and overall the race was won by Ware Joggers followed by Bishop's Stortford RC, Hoddesdon Tri, Saffron Walden Striders and HRC a disappointing 5th and last place. First HRC lady to finish was Julia Gardiner in 5th place out of 69 finishers in a superb 40min 10sec. She was followed home by Paula Reynolds 9th in 42min 07sec, Sharon Wright 13th in 43min 02sec and Sandi Rust 22nd in 46min 03sec. First finisher in the men's race was Rob Lowe in 10th place out of 119 finishers in an excellent 34min 31sec. He was followed by Jamie Jephcott 25th in 36min 45sec, Alex Smith 34th in 37min 15sec and Steve Mackenzie 38th in 38min 33sec.

At the Harlow Parkrun 5K Jamie Jephcott triumphed in 1st place out of 82 finishers in an excellent 19min 51sec. Jim Bates finished in 21st place and 1st Vet 70 in a personal best time for the distance (PB) of 24min 56sec which is a new HRC Vet 70 record. Dymchurch Triple Marathon - 5th-7th December

Harlow Running Club member Andy Kinney endured an exhausting weekend, completing 3 marathons in 3 days, at the Dymchurch Triple Marathon event held along coastal routes at the Romney Marsh area of Kent. On Friday Kinney finished the first marathon in 82nd place out of 91 finishers in 5hrs 35min 40sec, the second run on Saturday in 72nd place out of 78 finishers in 5hrs 55min 41sec and the third on Sunday in 56th place out of 67 finishers in 5hrs 38min 07sec. Kinney therefore ended up being on his feet for an incredible 17 hours plus!

CHAMPIONSHIP: Chelmsford 10k – 23rd November

Harlow Running Club had several runners competing at the Essex 10K Championships at a very wet and undulating course at Chelmsford on Sunday. Jared Bethell finished in 22nd place out of 516 finishers in an excellent 35min 24sec. He was followed home by Jamie Jephcott 85th in 39min 50sec, Jason Haigh 130th in 42min 36sec and John Tennant 185th and 3rd Vet 60 to earn a Championship bronze medal in 44min 41sec. X-COUNTRY: Sunday Cross Country League (Ware, race 1 of 4) - 16th November

Harlow Running Club competed in the first round of the East Herts and West Essex Cross Country League on Sunday at a muddy 5 mile course at Ware. The league consists of teams from Harlow RC, Bishop's Stortford RC, Hoddesdon Tri, Saffron Walden Striders and Ware Joggers with the final league winners going on to compete in a national final. Harlow ladies team finished 3rd, the men 4th and overall Harlow were 3rd. This first round was won by Ware, followed by Bishop's Stortford, Harlow, Hoddesdon and Saffron Walden. First HRC member to finish was Jared Bethell in 4th place out of 128 finishers in an excellent 31min 39sec. He was followed home by Rob Lowe 16th in 33min 40sec, Peter Brewin 23rd in 35min 34sec and Rick Ricketts 30th  in 35min 23sec. John Tennant finished in 55th place and 1st Vet 60 in 38min 34sec and Alan Cootes 84th and 3rd Vet 60 in 42min 17sec. First Harlow lady was Julia Gardiner in 3rd place out of 79 finishers and 2nd Vet 35 in a superb 38min 18sec. She was followed by Paula Reynolds 8th in 39min 17sec, Dionne Jones 10th and 2nd Vet 45 in 41min 20sec and Sharon Wright 11th in 41min 29sec.

CHAMPIONSHIP: Stebbing 10 - 9th November

HRC had a good turnout at the Stebbing 10 Mile race, including some who run the previous day's Harlow Parkrun. Steve Murtagh finished in 3rd place out of 445 finishers and 1st Vet 50 in a fantastic 58min 48sec. He was followed by Rick Ricketts 37th in 1hr 06min 15sec, Jamie Jephcott 48th in 1hr 07min 07sec and Adrian Fell 79th in 1hr 10min 21sec. First Harlow lady was Dionne Jones 91st and 1st Lady Vet 45 in an excellent personal best time for the distance (PB) of 1hr 11min 27sec and she was followed by Sharon Wright 119th in 1hr 13min 12sec(PB). Several Harlow Running Club members participated in the first running of the Harlow Parkrun 5K on Saturday, as previewed in last week's Harlow Star. Jamie Jephcott finished in 3rd place out of 154 finishers and 1st Vet 45 in a superb 19min 59min and Colin Moody was 43rd and 3rd Vet 60 in 24min 21sec. Competing at their debut at the distance were Paul Dixon 44th in 24min 21sec, Alan Cootes 54th in 25min 09sec, and Jim Bates 65th in 26min 02sec to create a new HRC Vet 70 record. Also running were Justin Patten 66th in 26min 05sec, Jane Evans 84th in 28min 36sec, Terry Pike 92nd in 29min 35sec, Freya Turner Porter 103rd in 31min 09sec and Joy Hale 104th in the same time.

Son Daniel was 8th in an excellent 19min 28sec, a personal best time for the distance and a new HRC U20 record. Chelmsford Park Marathon - 19th October

Harlow Running Club were well represented at the inaugural Chelmsford Marathon with 16 runners finishing the course on what was a windy and unseasonably warm day. Leading the way was Jared Bethell in 6th place out of 960 finishers in an excellent 2hrs 57min 33sec. He was followed home by Alex Smith 93rd in a personal best time for the distance (PB) of 3hrs 33min 28sec. First HRC lady to finish was Lyndsey Hodge 163rd in a superb 3hrs 43min 09sec and she was followed by Sandra Rust 236th in 3hrs 52min 14sec, just 1 min outside her PB. Brendon Maclean finished in 273rd place in 3hrs 57min 52sec (PB), John Bull 282nd in 3hrs 58min 22sec, and Janice Page 340th in 4hrs 03min 46sec just 2min outside her PB. Harlow Running Club had a successful day at the Essex Half Marathon Championships held at Pleshey near Chelmsford, picking up two Essex medals, a HRC record and five personal best times for the distance (PB). Steve Murtagh led the way in 7th place out of 403 finishers and 1st Vet 50 to win the gold medal in his age group in a fantastic 1hr 17min 14sec and this was also a HRC Vet 50 record. He was closely followed home by Jared Bethell 9th in an excellent 1hr 18min 34sec. John Tennant 111th and 2nd Vet 60 won the silver medal in his age group in 1hr 35min 15sec. Harlow Running Club member Steve Ambrose completed the exhausting North Downs Way 100, a 100 mile trail race spread over two days and following the picturesque South Downs countryside starting at Farnham in Surrey and finishing at Wye in Kent. The course is very hilly and has a total climb of 9930ft and an overall elevation change of 20,000ft. Ambrose finished in 96th place out of 110 finishers in an incredible 29hrs 24min 28sec.

HARLOW 10:Harlow 10 (miles) - 20th July

Harlow Running Club staged the 25th running of the Harlow 10 Mile Road Race on a very warm Sunday morning. The course started in London Road, opposite Mark Hall Sports Centre, went through Newhall, Church Langley, along Hastingwood Road, Threshers Bush, Foster Street, along Harlow Common, cross Potter Street onto the cycle track, through Ladyshot along Momples Road, then into Felmongers and finished on Mark Hall athletics track. The race was won by Jake Shelley of Shaftsbury Barnet Harriers in a fantastic 54min 42sec. He was followed home by Paul Whittaker of Southend AC in 54min 57sec and Pere Capdevila, unattached, in 56min 31sec. First lady to finish was Alex Gounelas of Eton Manor AC in an excellent 63min 30sec and she was followed by Nikki Brockbank of Springfield Striders 21st in 65min 30sec and Karen Murphy of Barnet & District AC 27th in 68min 02sec. First Harlow runner was Jared Bethell in 4th place in a superb 60min 05sec. He was followed home by ex paralympian gold medalist Noel Thatcher 10th and 3rd Vet 40 in 61min 21sec, Lyndon Cooper 11th in a personal best time for the distance of 61min 31sec, Alan Broughton 26th in 68min 01sec, Daniel Jephcott 43rd in 71min 48sec and Robin Lozeau 106th in 86min 05sec. The men's team prize was won by Ilford AC and the ladies by Springfield Striders. A total of 199 runners finished the course.

Midweek League Mob Match (10k), Welwyn Garden City - 17th July

Harlow Running Club competed in the Midweek League Road Race Mob Match on Thursday, a race involving runners from both divisions of the league, over a two lap course at Welwyn Garden City. In the ladies race Louise Tankard finished in 9th place out of 101 finishers and she was followed by Sharon Wright 16th in 45min 32sec and Paula Reynolds 24th in 47min 58sec. In the men's race Rob Lowe finished in 24th place out of 236 finishers in 37min 45sec and he was followed by Jamie Jephcott 54th in 39min 37sec and Steve Mackenzie in 41min 03sec. After the race there was a Midweek League presentation ceremony in which HRC picked up five individual Division 2 series awards. Louise Tankard capped a superb series by winning the Senior Ladies category while Julia Gardiner was the Ladies Vet 35 winner. Sharon Wright was 2nd in the Senior Ladies, Steve Mackenzie was 3rd Vet 50 and John Tennant 2nd Vet 60.

Harlow Running Club had 20 runners out at the Felsted 10K road race on a very warm and muggy Sunday morning over a gently undulating course across the Essex countryside. First Harlow runner was Steve Murtagh in 4th place out of 317 finishers and 1st Vet 50 in an excellent 35min 21sec. He was followed home by Rob Lowe 13th in 38min 09sec, Jamie Jephcott 19th in 39min 22sec and John Tennant 60th and 3rd Vet 60 in 43min 22sec. Harlow Running Club competed in the last round of the Herts/Essex Mid Week Road Race League Division 2 over an undulating 10K course at Hitchin. Harlow went into this race in 3rd position out of 9 teams, 1 point behind rivals Royston, knowing that a good performance on the day could see them gain promotion. Once again the ladies outshone the men by coming 2nd in their race with the men 3rd and overall HRC were 2nd to gain 15 points, 1 more than Royston. This meant that both teams finished the league on 58 points with North Herts Road Runners on top with 70 points. With only two teams being promoted Royston finished 2nd on count back by virtue of a better individual total leaving HRC missing out by the narrowest of margins. First Harlow lady to finish was Louise Tankard in 4th place out of 99 finishers in an excellent 43min 32sec. She was followed home by Julia Gardiner 8th and 3rd Vet 35 in 44min 55sec, Sharon Wright 11th in 45min 40sec, Dionne Jones 12th in 45min 45sec and Paula Reynolds 13th in 46min dead. First Harlow man was Jamie Jephcott in 24th place out of 147 finishers in a superb 39min 36sec. Endure 24h, Wasing Park Estate - 28/29 June
 
Another runner who put in an exhausting effort was Jamie Jephcott who competed in the Endure 24 Hour race, run over a 5 mile loop of forest trails. It takes place in the scenic Wasing Park Estate, Aldermaston near Reading. In recent years Jephcott has performed very well in this event with 2nd and 4th place finishes but this year suffered an injury after 14 hours. However, he still managed to cover 11 laps and 55 miles in 14hrs 13min 22sec to finish in 73rd place out of 121 competitors.

At a hilly and muli-terrain Bishop's Stortford 10 Mile race HRC came away with three trophies from just four runners. Jared Bethell won the event in a fantastic 1hr 02min 06sec from a field of 156 finishers. MWL: Harlow 10k (Race 3 of 4) – 18th June
 
Harlow Running Club hosted the third round of the Herts/Essex Midweek Road Race League Division 2 over an undulating 10K course. Once again the ladies outshone the men by comfortably winning their race, with the men only 4th out of nine teams. After three races the ladies now top their league and overall HRC are equal 2nd with Royston Runners on 43 points with North Herts Road runners still leading with 52 points. With one round to go and two teams promoted to division 1 HRC are now in a great position to return to the top division after a two year absence. First Harlow lady to finish was Louise Tankard in 4th place out of 74 finishers in an excellent 42min 03sec. She was followed home by Julia Gardiner 5th and 1st Vet 35 in a personal best time for the distance (PB) in 43min 10sec, Dionne Jones 6th and 2nd Vet 35 in 43min 12sec and Paula Reynolds 7th and 3rd Vet 35 in 44min 10sec. There were also PB runs from Sandra Rust 19th and 3rd Vet 45 in 48min 10sec and Faith Jackson-Lee 27th in 49min 13sec. In the men's race Rob Lowe finished in 12th place out of 124 finishers in a superb 38min 11sec. He was followed by Peter Brewin 28th in a PB time of 39min 44sec, Jamie Jephcott 29th in 39min 55sec and Steve Mackenzie 30th in 40min 02sec. At a very hilly Great Easton 5 Mile race which doubled as the Essex Championships HRC achieved three new club records and three Essex medals. Steve Murtagh finished in 15th place out of 187 finishers and 2nd Vet 50 to win the silver medal in his category in a fantastic 28min 33sec to create a new HRC Vet 50 record. He was followed by Jamie Jephcott 34th in 31min 06sec, Daniel Jephcott 57th in 33min 33sec and John Tennant 71st and 2nd Vet 60 to win the silver medal in his category in 35min 01sec. Dionne Jones finished  57th in a PB time of 35min 08sec to create a new HRC Ladies Vet 40 record and Debbie Smith 147th finished in a PB time of 43min 14sec. Paulene Galoppi, in her debut at the distance, finished in 179th place and 3rd Lady Vet 65 to win the bronze medal in her category in 49min 50sec and create a new HRC Ladies Vet 65 record.

Once again the ladies team outperformed the men, finishing in a fantastic 1st place out of 9 teams with the men finishing in 4th place and overall Harlow finished in 3rd place. After two rounds Harlow lie in 3rd place with 28 points, just 1 point behind Bishop's Stortford with North Herts Road Runners top with 35 points. First female finisher for HRC was Louise Tankard in 3rd place out of 90 finishers in an excellent 41min 57 seconds, a personal best time for the distance (PB) and a new HRC Senior Ladies record. She was followed home by Dionne Jones 6th and 1st Vet 35 in 44min 08sec, Julia Gardiner 7th and 2nd Vet 35 and Paula Reynolds 9th and 3rd Vet 35. There were also PBs for Sandi Rust 27th in 48min 42sec, Clair Adams 58th in 53min 25sec and Holly Nairn 70th in 55min 16sec. In the men's race Jared Bethell finished in 8th place out of 151 finishers in a superb 35min 59sec and he was followed by Steve Mackenzie 33rd and 3rd Vet 50 in 40min 09sec and Adrian Fell 39th in 40min 40sec. Harlow Running Club staged the last of three Ladies 5K Series of midweek races run on a hilly course through the town park. The winner of this race was Harlow's own Julia Gardiner in an excellent 21min 14sec. She was followed home by Janet Smith of Bishop's Stortford in 21min 19sec and Harlow's Sharon Wright in 21min 39sec. There were also personal best times for the distance (PB) for Faith Jackson-Lee 8th in 24min 20sec, Michelle Aitken 11th in 25min 18sec, Jane Evans 14th in 26min 15sec and Sheila Leach 19th in 29min 24sec. Harlow Running Club had an excellent turnout with 41 runners at the Hatfield Broad Oak 10K race on a warm Bank Holiday Monday morning. It was also a productive day with two club records and seven personal best times for the distance(PB). First HRC runner was Steve Murtagh i 10th place out of 1202 finishers and 1st Vet 50 in a fantastic 35min 07sec which is a new HRC Vet 50 record. He was closely followed home by Lyndon Cooper 11th in a PB time of 35min 10sec, Jared Bethell 25th in 36min 27sec and Jamie Jephcott 64th in 38min 48sec. First HRC lady was Louise Tankard 148th in her debut at the distance in an excellent 42min 26sec to create a new HRC Senior Lady record. MIDWEEK LEAGUE: Bishops Stortford (Race 1) - 14th May

Harlow Running Club made a reasonable start to the first race of four of the Herts / Essex Mid Week Road Race League Division 2, hosted by Bishop's Stortford RC over a hilly multi-terrain 10K course. HRC finished in 4th place overall with13 points, with North Herts Road Runners on top with 18 points. The rest of the league is made up with teams from Royston Runners, Hitchin RC, Broxbourne RC, Herts Phoenic AC,  Edmonton RC and Stevenage & North Herts AC. Harlow ladies team outperformed the men on the evening by finishing in 3rd place to the mens 4th place. The individual performance of the evening went to Louise Tankard who finished first in the ladies race out of 92 finishers in a fantastic 40min 42sec in her debut race for HRC. She was followed home by Julia Gardiner 3rd in 41min 45sec and Sharon Wright 7th in 43min 28sec. Lyndon Cooper was first Harlow runner in 5th place out of 165 finishers in an excellent 34min 24sec. He was followed by Rob Lowe 14th in 36min 34sec, Jamie Jephcott 21st in 37min 09sec and John Tennant 61st and 3rd Vet 60 in 41min 16sec.

Harlow Running Club held its first of three Ladies 5K Series of races last week on a hilly course through the town park. The winner of thi first race was HRC's own Julia Gardiner in an excellent 21min 24sec out of a total 30 finishers. She was followed home by Janet Smith of Bishop's Stortford in 21min 48sec and Natalie Longman of Tri Sport Epping in 21min 51sec. Avenue of the Giants Marathon, Humboldt Redwoods State Park, California - 4th May

Harlow Running Club's Andy Kinney continued his run of American marathons with the Avenue of the Giants Marathon, his third marathon in as many weeks. Staged on the scenic "The Avenue of the Giants" in Humboldt Redwoods State Park, located in rural Northern California, the paved course winds through giant 300ft tall old growth redwoods. Kinney finished in 501st place out of 636 finishers in 5hrs 16min 12sec.

Virgin London Marathon - 13th April

Harlow Running Club fielded 14 runners in this years Virgin LondonMarathon. They joined over 35,000 others runners on what was a great day for spectating but, because of the constant sunshine, made it very warm for running a distance of 26.2 miles. Several runners ran for charity, raising over £3000 for St Clare Hospice, Seafarers, Diabetes UK and Oasis. Performance of the day belonged to Steve Murtagh. He finished in 177th place and 3rd Vet 50 in a fantastic 2hrs 39min 22sec to improve the HRC Vet 50 record, which has stood since 2000, by an incredible 20min. First HRC lady was Julia Gardiner in 4727th place in an excellent 3hrs 28min 22sec in her debut at the distance. Jamie Jephcott 4048th finished in a superb 3hrs 24min 04sec, Colin Moody 6442nd in 3hrs 38min 18sec and Andy Terrell 7661st in 3hrs 44min 15sec. Lyndsey Hodge 7449th finished in 3hrs 43min 15sec, Odette Galea 11,948th in 4hrs 00min 39sec and Emma Wadding 14,302nd in 4hrs 11min 10sec, all improved their personal best times for the distance by an amazing 15 minutes, and Janice Page 12,176th in 4hrs 01min 37sec fell just 7 seconds short of her PB. Competing in their debuts at the distance were Paul Schroder 17,352nd in  4hrs 23min 29sec, Spencer Brooks 17,972nd in 4hrs 25min 57sec, Terry Pike 29,076th in 5hrs 20min 58sec and Vicky Calver 31,517th in 5hrs 40min 50sec. Harlow Running Club had a good turnout at the St. Clare Hospice 10K, with 25 runners helping to raise much need funds for the hospice. First HRC member to finish was Rob Lowe in 8th place out of 409 finishers and 3rd Vet 40 in an excellent 37min 57 sec. Murtagh finished the race in 3rd place out of 452 finishers in an excellent 1hr 58min 53sec, but was the 1st Essex qualified runner and was therefore awarded the Open gold medal, as a Vet 40 he also won the gold medal in that category. Murtagh becomes only the second HRC member to win the Essex 20 Mile Championships Open gold medal, the first being double winner Russell Maddams in 2002 and 2003. Colin Moody 105th and 2nd Vet 60 won the silver medal in his category in 2hrs 32min 46sec, Julia Gardiner 120th and 3rd lady Vet 35 won the bronze medal in her category in 2hrs 35min 43sec and Sean Flynn 173rd finished in 2hrs 45min 52sec. All the other HRC members were competing in their debut at the distance.

Silverstone Half Marathon – 2nd March

Harlow Running Club were represented at the Adidas Silverstone Hal Marathon, run on the historic motor racing circuit and organised by the team responsible for the world famous Virgin London Marathon. While several HRC members managed one of the water stations en route, five runners completed the course. Andrew Ramage finished the course in 1517th place out of 6778 finishers in a superb 1hr 47min 01sec, a personal best time for the distance by over 3 minutes. He was followed home by Matt Jones 1986th in 1hr 50min 53sec, Paul Schroder 2148th in a PB time of 1hr 52min 29sec, Susan Dewen 4652nd in 2hrs 14min 35sec and Paulene Galoppi 5322nd in 2hrs 23min 16sec.

XC: Bishops Stortford (Race 4 of 4) - 16th February

Harlow Running Club competed in the fourth and final round of the East Herts and West Essex Cross Country League over a muddy 5 mile course at Bishop's Stortford. First HRC member to finish was Rob Lowe in 6th place out of 89 finishers and 1st Vet 40 in an  excellent 31min 14sec. He was followed home by Jamie Jephcott 11th and 3rd Vet 40 in 31min 48sec, Alan Broughton 12th in 31min 54sec, Steve Mackenzie 29th in 33min 52sec and John Tennant 44th and 1st Vet 60 in 36min 17sec. In the series overall Rob Lowe and John Tennant finished as 1st Vet 40 and 1st Vet 60 winners respectively and Alan Broughton was 3rd Vet 40. In the ladies race Julia Gardiner finished in 6th place out of 65 finishers and 2nd Vet 35, and also 2nd Vet 35 overall, in a superb 35min 33sec and she was followed by Paula Reynolds 8th in 37min dead, Sharon Wright 12th in 39min 51sec and Janice Page 29th in 42min 55sec. The winning men's team on the day were Ware Joggers followed by Bishop's Stortford, Saffron Walden Striders and Harlow RC. The ladies team was also won by Ware Joggers followed by Bishop's Stortford, Saffron Walden Striders and Harlow RC. The final overall league positions are Ware top with 15 pts, Bishop's Stortford 11pts, Saffron Walden Striders 10 pts and Harlow RC 4 pts.

CHAMPIONSHIP: Great Bentley Half Marathon - 9th February

Harlow Running Club members produced some excellent performances at the Great Bentley Half Marathon with several personal best times for the distance and one club record. This was despite the very windy conditions on the one lap course near Colchester. Pride of place goes to 18 year old Daniel Jephcott who finished in 255th place out of 748 finishers in an excellent  PB time of 1hr 41min 02sec which improved the HRC U20 record by 29 seconds. First HRC member to finish was Jamie Jephcott 94th in a superb 1hr 28min 54sec. He was followed home by Rick Ricketts, recentley back from injury, 124th in 1hr 31min 41sec. First Harlow lady was Dionne Jones 173rd and 2nd lady Vet 40 in an excellent 1hr 35min 05sec and not far behind was Julia Gardiner 184th and 2nd lady Vet 35 in a PB time of 1hr 35min 38sec. Colin Moody 188th and 3rd Vet 60 finished in 1hr 36min 13sec and there were PB's from Sandra Rust (358th, 1.47.08), Robin Lozeau (445th, 1.52.24), and Vicky Calver (734th, 2.32.14).  There were also creditable debut runs at the distance from Alex Smith (193rd, 1.36.31), Ben Barnard (430th, 1.51.25) and Katie Muirhead (632nd, 2.05.39). Also running were Matt Jones (595th, 2.02.33) and Alison Bull (636th, 2.07.01).

XC & CHAMPIONSHIP: Saffron Walden (Race 3 of 4) - 2nd February

Harlow Running Club competed in the third race of four in the East Herts and West Essex Cross Country League over a muddy 5 mile course at Saffron Walden. First Harlow RC member to finish was Rob Lowe in 11th place out of 109 finishers and 2nd Vet 40 in an excellent 28min 55sec. He was followed home by Alan Broughton 15th in 29min 06sec and Jamie Jephcott 16th in 29min 12sec. John Tennant 50th in 33min 00sec and Pasquale Pellecchia 65th in 34min 56sec were 1st and 3rd Vet 60 finishers respectively. The men's team winners on the day were Ware Joggers, with Saffron Striders 2nd, Bishop's Stortford RC 3rd and Harlow RC 4th. First Harlow lady to finish was Julia Gardiner in 5th place out of 68 finishers and 3rd Vet 35 in a superb 32min 33sec. She was followed by Paula Reynolds 8th in 33min 35sec and Sharon Wright 11th in 35min 24sec. The Ladies team winners on the day were Bishop's Stortford RC with Ware Joggers 2nd, Saffron Striders 3rd and Harlow RC 4th. After three races Ware Joggers lead the way with 11pts, Bishop's Stortford and Saffron Striders have 8pts and Harlow RC a disappointing 3pts.

Folksworth 15 (miles) - 19th January

Harlow Running Club members began their Spring Marathon preparations by competing in the Folksworth 15 Mile race. The hilly two lap course near Peterborough proved very productive for HRC members with two new club records and a personal best time for the distance. Just turned eighteen Daniel Jephcott, in his debut at the distance, finished in 211th place out of 450 finishers and 1st Junior in an excellent 2hr 03min 42sec to create a new HRC U20 record. Janice Page, also in her distance debut, finished in 250th place in a superb 2hrs 08min 14sec to improve the HRC Female Vet 50 record which has stood since 1999. Graham Saville was 227th in a PB time of 2hrs 05min 49sec. First HRC member to finish was Jamie Jephcott in 59th place in 1hr 44mn 05sec. He was followed home by Colin Moody 110th and 3rd Vet 60 in 1hr 50min 32sec and John Tennant 138th in 1hr 53min 49sec. Also running In their debut at the distance were David Page (309th, 2.15.54), Terry Pike (346th, 2.22.03) and Santosh Kumar (373rd, 2.26.44).

XC: Sunday Cross Country League, Harlow - 12th January

Harlow Running Club hosted the second round of the East Herts and West Essex Cross Country League on a cold Sunday morning over a five mile course on the fields and woods between Newhall and Church Langley. After a clear night there were some icy patches to beware of in the open stretches but the woods were still very muddy in places. The Men's winner was Andy Mynott of Saffron Walden Striders followed by Mark Ford from Ware Joggers and Steven Prosser of Bishop Stortford. First Harlow runner was Rob Lowe in 10th position out of 120 finishers and 1st Vet 40. He was followed home by Stuart Saville (17th), Alan Broughton (20th and 3rd Vet 40), Jamie Jephcott (26th) and Steve MacKenzie (27th and 3rd Vet 50). John Tennant (47th) and Roy Steven (63rd) were first and third Vet 60 finishers respectively. The Men's team winners on the day were Ware Joggers, with Saffron Walden 2nd, Stortford 3rd and Harlow a disappointing 4th. The Ladies winner was Fiona Halls from Saffron Walden, with Emma Deary 2nd and Sarah Moores 3rd, both from Stortford. First Harlow lady was Paula Reynolds in 6th place out of 83 finishers and she was followed by Dionne Jones 7th and Julia Gardiner 11th. The Ladies team winners on the day were Stortford, followed by Ware, Harlow and Saffron Walden. After two races Ware Joggers lead the way with 7 pts, Bishop's Stortford 6tps,,Saffron Walden 5pts and Harlow 2pts.
