XC: Harlow Running Club (Race 3 of 4) - 6th January

Harlow Running Club hosted the third of the four Sunday League Cross Country races on Sunday. The 5 miles course looped around the fields behind Churchgate Street including two stream crossings and then completed two laps through the Newhall Woods, before returning to the finish via the fields and stream behind Churchgate Street again. In slippery conditions there was the largest turnout of the series with 158 runners overcoming the course.
Harlow ’s Steve Murtagh was a clear winner in the Men’s race, followed by two Saffron Striders runners, Andy Mynott and Ian Henley. However, the team winners were Ware Joggers with Harlow finishing third.
In the Ladies’ race, Fiona Halls from Saffron Striders was first, Kathryn Chapman of Bishop’s Stortford second and Annette Fairhurst of Ware Joggers third. Ware were again the team winners, with Harlow trailing in fourth place.
This meant that the overall result on the day saw Ware the clear winners, Saffron Striders in second, while Harlow and Bishop’s Stortford tied for third place.
The results mean that there is all to play for in the League race at Saffron Striders in three week’s time when the final positions will be decided.
