Burnham Beeches Half Marathon - 22nd August

Meanwhile at the Burnham Beeches Half Marathon, which incorporated the British National and Southern Counties Championships, Steve Murtagh finished in a superb 20th place out of over 900 finishers in 1hr 18min 32sec. This was good enough for a fantastic 4th place in the National Championships Vet 45 category and 2nd place in the Southern Counties Championships Vet 45 category.

Fairlands Valley Spartans 5K Series (Race 2 of 3) - 19th August

Harlow Running Club members Jamie Jephcott and John Tennant completed the second of three races in the Stevenage Midweek 5K Series. On a breezy evening both runners narrowly failed to equal their times from the first race. Jamie finished in 18min 32sec, just one second outside his first time, and John finished in 19min 23sec, eight seconds outside his first time.

Salisbury 54321 - 8th August

Three intrepid Harlow Running Club members took part in the Salisbury 5-4-3-2-1 Trail races run over a very hilly and demanding course across the Wessex countryside. Katie Herrington took part in the 20k (13 miles) event and finished 3rd lady runner in a superb time of 1hr 56min 56sec. David Ayling and Steve Ambrose both took part in the 50k (33 miles) event as preparation for their 90k (56 miles) London to Brighton Race next month. David finished in a fantastic 4hrs 51min 10sec and Steve was not far behind in 4hrs 58min 34sec.

Orion Forest 5 - 7th August

At the Forest 5 Mile race held on a hilly course in Epping Forest Sean Flynn finished in 38min 12 sec and Martin McColgan in 39min 46sec.

Fairlands Valley Spartans 5K Series (Race 1 of 3) - 5th August

Harlow Running Club members Jamie Jephcott and John Tennant completed the first race of three in the Stevenage 5K series with both achieving excellant results. Jamie completed the course in 32nd place out of 160 runners in 18min 31sec to record a personal best time for the distance. John finished in 40th place and 1st Vet 60 in 19min 15sec which is a new HRC Vet 60 record for the distance.

Harlow 10 - 25th July

Harlow Running Club staged the 21st running of the Harlow 10 Mile Road Race on a warm and muggy Sunday Morning. The race also incorporated the Essex 10 Mile Championships and was started by local MP Robert Halfon. There were a total of 378 runners from as far afield as Bristol and Edinburgh as well as many from local running clubs.
The race winner was Adrian Whitwam from Aldershot Farnham and District AC in a fantastic time of 54min 33sec. Second finisher and first lady was British international Claire Hallissey from Bristol and West AC in an outstanding time of 56min 02sec. Claire recently finished 2nd in the UK Championships Womens 10,000 metres. Second and third men, both from Springfield Striders, were Gary Chandler in 56min 15sec and Mark Newton in 56min 17sec. Second lady was Laura Cowley from Herts Phoenix AC in 62min 57sec and she was followed home by Shona McIntosh from Hunters Bog Trotters Club from Edinburgh in 63min 59sec.
First Harlow runner was Jared Bethell in 19th place in a superb 60min 23sec and he was followed home by Jamie Jephcott in 39th place and a personal best time for the distance of 64min 57sec. Third Harlow runner was John Tennant in 55th place and vet 60 silver medalist in the Essex Championships in 66min 48sec which is a new HRC Vet 60 record.

Brentwood 10K - 18th July

Meanwhile on Sunday at a very hilly Brentwood 10K Jamie Jephcott finished in a fantastic 20th place out of over 300 runners in 39min 28sec and John Tennant finished in 40th place and 1st Vet 60 in 41min 10sec.

MWL: Mob Match (Trent Park) - 14th July

Several Harlow Running Club members completed the Herts/Essex Midweek Road Race League Mob Match at Trent Park Enfield over a hilly 9K course. First Harlow runner to finish was Jason Haigh in a superb 36min 05sec and he was followed home by John Tennant in 37min 36sec and David Ayling in 38min 26sec. First Harlow lady was Sharon Wright in a creditable 41min 37sec and she was followed by Kate Herrington in 42min 10sec and Janice Page in 47min 35sec.

CHAMPIONSHIP: Felsted 10K - 11th July

Several Harlow Running Club members completed the Felsted 10K road race which also incorporated the Essex 10K Championships. First Harlow runner to finish was Jared Bethell in 27th place out of over 400 runners in a superb 36min 35sec. He was followed home by Jamie Jephcott in 56th place in a personal best time for the distance of 39min 08sec. Third Harlow runner was John Tennant who finished as second Vet 60 to claim an Essex silver medal in 40min 15sec, just 5 seconds behind the first Vet 60. First Harlow lady to finish was Dionne Jones in 187th place in a creditable 46min 34sec and she was followed home by Bryony Maddams in a personal best time of 49min 48sec. There were also personal best times for Jim Martin and Sonia Davis.

High Ongar 10K - 4th July

At the High Ongar 10K road race, in support of St. Clare Hospice, run on Sunday on another very warm day Harlow Running Club members enjoyed a much more successful day. First Harlow runner was Jared Bethel in a fantastic 4th place in 36min 48sec. He was followed home by Jamie Jephcott in 10th place and 1st Vet 40 in 39min 22sec which equalled his personal best time for the distance. John Tennant finished in 19th place and 1st Vet 60 in 41min 31sec and these three combined to win the mens team prize. Also running were Matt Jones in 47min 50sec and Joanne Mills in 57min 37sec.
