Introduction

Harlow Running Club is based at the new Sports Centre at Mark Hall, We are a friendly club, affiliated to UK athletics and cater for runners (including wheelchair athletes) of all abilities who want to run on the road or cross country for competition or pleasure.

History

With the huge interest in running during the eighties, The Harlow Running Club was formed in 1989, and has grown and performed in all the disciplines from 5,000m to Marathons and ultra runs, with excellent results and many Essex medals gained.

The club was originally formed and centred at the Harlow Sports Centre, but since October 2006 the Mark Hall Sports Centre with a new track and facilities has opened and the Harlow Athletic Club and Harlow Running Club now share a new Club House with all amenities allocated to them.

Both clubs work in conjunction, with members who wish to run track do so with the Harlow Athletic Club and members from the Athletic club who wish to run cross country do so with Harlow Running Club.

What we organise

The Harlow 10: A 10 mile road race around Harlow that is usually held at the end of July/beginning of August. This event has been run every year since 1990 and attracts 400-500 competitors from far and wide – previous winners of the race have come from South Africa and Mauritius.

Ladies 5k Series: A 3 race series run at fortnightly intervals in May and June each year and increasing in popularity.

Cross Country: We organise a cross country race as part of a league we compete in with clubs from Bishops Stortford, Ware and Saffron Walden.  The club aslo participates in the Metropolitan League.

Local Charity Support: We lend our expertise to local charities such as St Clare Hospice to assist them in putting on their annual charity races.

London Marathon and Flora Half Marathon: The club has 3 places for members (subject to qualifying criteria) to participate in the London Marathon.  We also organise a coach to take all our runners and their supporters to Blackheath for the London Marathon start and home again from a location close to the finish.  For several years the club has also run a water station at the Flora half marathon at Silverstone.
