Harlow Running Club is based at Mark Hall Community Sports Centre, off London Road. We are a friendly club, affiliated to UK athletics and cater for runners (including wheelchair athletes) of all abilities who want to run on the road or cross country, be it for competition or pleasure.

With the huge interest in running growing during the 1980s, Harlow Running Club was formed in 1989, and has developed and performed in all disciplines from 5,000m to marathons and ultra runs, with excellent results and many Essex medals gained.

The club was originally formed and based at the Harlow Sports Centre, but moved to Mark Hall Sports Centre in October 2006 which opened with a new track and facilities. The Club shares space with Harlow Athletic Club, with all amenities allocated to us.

Both clubs work together; members who wish to run track do so with the Harlow Athletic Club and members from the athletic club who wish to run cross country do so with HRC

What we organise

The Harlow 10: A 10-mile road race around Harlow usually held at the end of July/beginning of August. This event has been run every year since 1990 and attracts 400-500 competitors from far and wide previous winners of the race have come from South Africa and Mauritius.

Cross Country: We organise a cross country race as part of a league we compete in with clubs from Bishops Stortford, Ware and Saffron Walden. The club also participates in the Metropolitan League.

Local charity support: We lend our expertise to local charities such as St Clare Hospice to assist them in putting on their annual charity races.

London Marathon and Flora Half Marathon: The club has three places for members (subject to qualifying criteria) to run in the London Marathon.  We also organise a coach to take all our runners and their supporters to Blackheath for the London Marathon start and home again from a location close to the finish.  For several years the Club has also run a refreshment station at the Flora half marathon at Silverstone.

Important Announcements

RACE RULES: Members are reminded that it is now against UKA and BARR rules to swap race numbers WITHOUT permission from the race organisers.  If a runner of an affiliated event is found to be in breach of this rule, then the runner can be disqualified and further sanctions applied to both the runners and their clubs.
