I just want to send my best wishes to Katie, hope you are okay. As Karen and I saw you at the London Marathon and you quite clearly were'nt well, we were worried about you. Let us know how you are. Janice x

Hello Thanks for the concern - I'm okay now - I had 13 "panic attacks" in 8 miles. I got to mile 5 and didn't have much air, my breathing went up, my legs locked up and then I panicked - had to stop calm down then try agian etc 13 times. I was really looking forward to and enjoying it - I really wanted to see certain sights and finish! I was really determined but pulled out at mile 13 because i really could not breathe and nothing would work... It's what keeps happening when I try to do a race (regardless of speed). I saw the doctor and he was perplexed - but gave me an asthma pump. - It made a huge amount of difference to how i felt on monday and today - (much more active and alive - Air!) but i'm yet to see if it will make a difference when running..... Its not an asthma attack - though I had real trouble breathing in the last 2 attacks - but just not enough air? im really gutted that i could not finish i really really wanted to! - Well done to everyone who took part! it was hot!!! I will eventually get to the bottom of it! Katie

Sorry to hear you had such a bad time. If it is hay fever induced asthma you are in good company as I believe Paula Radcliffe and Haille GS suffer from this too

Smog Alert
.....Defra is urging the public to take "sensible precautions". It said some people, including those who have asthma - and particularly the elderly - could be affected by the high pollution levels and may notice an impact on their breathing. It advised people to avoid taking exercise outside in the afternoon if they are susceptible to the pollutants.... ...The smog alert - the first for more than a year - comes as monitoring in London revealed that one site, on the Marylebone Road, has exceeded EU rules for the number of days in the year in which high levels of PM10s are permitted. ....
So although it's an alert they're actually issuing it because levels in London have already been above the EU-allowed levels for a number of days this year - one of which was almost certainly the day of the London Marathon I would guess.
