I am always looking for suggestions for new website content, or people to write it!
If you have any ideas or things that you think may be of interest to club members on the site, please post here or send me an e-mail to the webmaster at harlowrc@gmail.com

One possible idea from me would be to have an area where members can offer up race entries that they can't fulfill for other HRC-ers to take advantage of. There were a couple of people who through circumstances/injury couldn't make use of their entry for the Stebbing 10 today which led to some lastminute.com phone calling etc to see if we could find anyone able to take their spot (we couldn't). It occurred to me that that kind of thing would be perfectly suited to the website? A board, or even a dedicated thread, in the forum, would probably be all we needed? Plus a bit of education so that people know to check here for possible late entries?
One caveat: I don't know whether this is allowed (my guess is that maybe small-ish races may not care but big races - VLM etc - definitely would). That may be a factor in whether this can happen, or how it could happen?

Adrian,
Although we all know that runners do swap numbers if they cannot make a race, in the majority of cases this goes against the rules of entry for the race (UKA rules also perhaps?), except where there is an official number transfer system.
The reasons for this are many fold: From a safety point of view, if anything was to happen to the runner, the race organisers will clearly not have their details, but those of the runner actually entered. The runner may win a prize they are not entitled to - e.g. a male runner taking a womens number could end up 'winning' a womans prize or even qualify them for marathon championship start by running a <1:30 half. A senior could also "win" a Vet prize they are not entitled to. Some of these things could be sorted out should they happen, but a stressed race director who has just worked out all the prize winners, then is told one is wrong is NOT going to be happy about it!
You also mention the London Marathon - A runner found out to be swapping a number here is likely to get themselves AND the person whose number they took banned for life, so not worth the risk.
Therfore, I think you will understand that as a club we cannot sanction unauthorised number transfers. Any such any disscusion on the website is likely to result in the post being deleted/moderated, but discussions around using an official transfer system are clearly OK.

No worries, I understand & totally agree we should comply with any rules etc. Feel free to delete this part of this thread so as not to clutter the site with anything inappropriate.

Hi Jon,
As a newer member of the club was thinking what your thoughts were about possibly having a club merchandise section
Not to be able to buy online but just to show what is available i.e tracksuit tops / jackets with Club name on and prices and who to contact or e-mail as regards ordering
I'm not sure what as a club we do sell but with an ever increasing membership list just thought it might be of interest - I know from looking at other running club web sites that they do promote their stuff

Howard,
Yes this is a good suggestion.
In principle, I can set up a fully functional 'web store' on here, but for the number of items we have, this is probably not needed. What I will look at is a page as you suggest. In the meantime, the person to contact about club merchandise is Karen Moir (ladies club captain) and I will at least put this fact up on the site.
