Midweek League
The Herts/Essex Midweek league is an race series, where local running clubs race each other at four fixtures in the summer over 8-10K. This series is open to all club members and there is no entry fee. To participate runners should register their interest with one of the club captains as you will be issued with a race number that you use for the entire series. Spare numbers are kept if you join the series late, but you must wear a club vest. You do not have to run all the races.
We can enter as many elligible members as we like. Race Points are scored by the first twelve men and the first six women of each team, but runner who does not score for the team can have an impact by pushing down the scoring values of runners from other clubs. That is why we encourage all our members to participate. The races are a lot of fun and sociable as food is supplied by the host team for after the races.
Race dates are expected to be May to July and will be communicated as soon as they are known.
Further details and results can be found on the Run Herts website.
Sunday Cross Country League
The cross country league is a 4 race league held on Sunday mornings over the winter between Harlow RC, Bishop’s Stortford RC, Saffron Striders and Ware Joggers. The races are open to all club members, free to enter and does not require any pre-registration. All runners must wear a club vest.
Runners score points based on finishing position where the top 7 male (2 of whom must be veterans) and top 3 female positions (1 must be a vet) are used to calculate a team's score. Each club is only allowed 1 male and 1 female 2nd claim scorer. We can field as many runners as we like and those who do not score themselves can affect the scores of other clubs, so we welcome all club members to participate.
Club Championship
As a response to member feedback and a reduced level of participation in the 2009 Club Championship, the commitee has considered some possible changes to the format. Although these have not been completely finalised, we have decided to communicate to you some of the changes so that club members can plan the races that they wish to participate in 2010. This is particuarly important as many races are becoming chip times with no entry on the day and selling out well in advance.
The current situation is that you will now be able to choose your best score from 2 qualifying races for the 5M, 10K, 10M & half marathon distances. The 5K, 20 miles and marathon can be any you choose, subject to it being an officially measured race. A 15M of your choice has also been added to increase the number of potential races. As in previous years, only 1 race of each
The the list of qualifying races proposed for 2010 races are as follows:
5M: Tilty Hilly 5 (2008 Route) or Ingatestone 5 (subject to change)
10K: Hatfield Broad Oak or Felsted 10k (2008 Route)
10M: Great Baddow or Stebbing 10
Half Marathon: Great Bentley Half Marathon (Route) or Stevenage Half Marathon
5K, 15M, 20M, Marathon: Any

Club Handicap
It is envisidged that the format for the 2010 Club Handicap will be the same as in recent years (see below). Further information to follow...
The club handicap is a members only series, that does not require any pre-entry and is open to all club members. If you wish to participate, you just have to turn up to the normal Tuesday club training session at 7:30pm.
Runners start the race according to a handicap time calculated from a recent race. Runners start from the slowest runner to the fastest so that eveyone finishes the race together, so anyone can win! Points are awarded based on your finishing position and your time (or one from a more recent race) is used to recalculate your handicap for next time.
To be eligible to win, runners must complete at least 4 races and have raced at each distance.

Apologies if any of these dates clash with any races you may have planned, but the commitee did its level best to spread the races out over the spring/summer period where weather/light conditions would be safe to run and avoiding the busy 5K/10K season. The later dates may be subject to change.
