"There are better things in life than alcohol, but it makes up for not having them." Terry
Pratchett
Thursday : Turned up at Mark Hall at 6:50pm to find the masses already off on their run ?? As
training usually starts at 7pm, this had me somewhat baffled !! In these days of modern
communication, you would think that the carrier pigeon or smoke signals would have relayed
the earlier start time to the HRC Membership, but you would be wrong.. The pigeon is lording
it in sunnier regions, and someone forgot the matches.. Anyway, aimless rant over, I did a
gentle 6 miler with Martin and Claire, then attended the highly entertaining & enjoyable AGM,
where I sat on the extremities and told Katie and Georgina not to get too close to me 'cos I
hadn't showered and smelt bad.. Some cruel and nasty readers may say that is the norm for
me, but that's what makes them cruel and nasty.
Sunday : LDWA Surrey 20 miler (Leatherhead).. Met up with my old Pompey mates, most of
whom were doing the 30 miler, except the girl (mentioned last week) who wanted to join me
on the 20 miler.. Anyway, she had got the message that I wanted to be "Dougie No Mates" for
the day, so she set off on her own. I did catch her up, and we ran together for a few miles until
I cruelly dropped her and went off on my own (I did see her again at the finish, so she did
make it, and isn't still somewhere in the Surrey Hills). Anyway, I was about 1hr 45mins at
halfway, and think I finished around 3h 32mins (results not published yet). Struggled over the
last 5 miles, simply due to the lack of mileage I've done, but didn't make any navigation cock
ups so nothing to blame for the time it took me to complete the jaunt.
Summary : Apparently, according to Adrian, I managed to insert some running details into my
drinking blog last week.. I can only apologise for this, and try to ensure there will be no such
repeat moving forward.. I did have a few more than I should have on Friday night, and suffered
on Saturday as a result - not the best prep for the Sunday event !! As my mum used to say
"Never drink on an empty head" - I never could understand that one ??
I've now decided to start my own sort of anagram quiz.. Each clue will give you a letter.
Guesses to be posted on the HRC website when you think you know the answer.. I'll respond
when someone get's it correct.. No prizes, just a bit of fun..
So, here is Question 1, Clue 1 :-
What was my nickname in XV Para ?
And here is the first clue.. From the lyrics below, who wrote the original ? (2nd letter of First
name of original artist)
"There are many here among us, who feel that life is but a joke. But you and I, we've been
through that, and this is not our fate. So let us not talk falsely now, the hour is getting late"
I can feel my shares in Google rocketing as you lot scramble to search for the answer..
All the best,
dg
