Week 2 (11/1 - 17/1)
Weight : 12st 4.75lb
Booze : 12
Miles : 14
Sunday : PH3 hash run, around 8 miles.. Relatively long for a hash run, with about a mile
finish up a treacle based trench like footpath.. I didn't hang around after the run, as I headed
home, quick shower and change (a la Benny Hill) then back out again to recce my planned
route for the Hash I have to set for Feb 7th. Unfortunately, the long awaited snow melt has
caused flooding in the area I was in, causing me to re-direct / re-route on several occasions,
and pretty much cocking up my original bloody reason to doing the recce.. We'll call it 6
miles, but fairly irrelevant in the big picture of things
Summary : Once again, the weather intervened in the weeks plan.. Firstly, I couldn't get out of
my village on Monday morning due to snow, so ended up working from home.. For some folks
this means skiving around watching Sky Footie and Golf that you failed to watch on the
Sunday.. This certainly wasn't the case for me.. I had the laptop on my lap the entire day,
whilst the TV may or may not have been on in front of me - I didn't really notice, as I was so
engrossed in my work..... I did make it to Harlow on Tuesday, but ended up working late, and
never got out in time to reach training - I sort of felt guilty about the Monday, which made me
overshoot on the Tuesday. Then, whilst getting my kit ready on Thursday morning, I found out
that I hadn't actually brought any shorts or trackie bottoms with me this week - "What a
dobber" I hear you say.. I have to agree.. So, once again, the pub beckoned like the dove from
above and I ended up having a few sherbets on Thursday evening whilst you lot were
displacing the snow..
btw - My boss may read this, you never know !!
Oh, and I do have the (re-scheduled) 20 miler next weekend.. Does anyone know how to say
"bugger off" to another runner (female) who cannot navigate, but has asked if she can join me
on the 20 miler 'cos she knows I won't lose my way ? Thing is, I don't want to be doing the
event with anyone else, regardless of whether they be quicker or slower than me.. I want to be
able to pick it up when I want, slow it down when I walk (translates as walk !!), but I don't want
to be too nasty in how I deliver the "bugger off" message.. I know I am being a selfish git - but
I don't care, because I am a selfish git, and unlikely to change my spots now. This event is
the first of three x off-road 20 milers I have planned over the next 5 weeks, and I need to
ensure I get the most out of them..
